Deer

Our largest mammals, deer can be very impressive. This is especially so during the red deer rut, when the males' aggression turns them from quiet ruminants into battling, grunting stags with a one-track mind. Personally, I prefer the quiet roe deer, which to me symbolises the common, impressive biodiversity on our doorsteps, but most people are unaware of this fantastic animal.
